JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Mary: as long as we purchased a calling card, we could
use the phone before 10pm everyday. otherwise we
would have to call collect and it would cost our
family a ton of money.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people?
Mary: to call collect it was like a 7 dollar connection
charge, along with 1.30 minute charged after
that.
On a calling card, it was like 20 dollars for 30
mins I think.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Mary: No. you could also call out collect.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Mary: Yes, they did. they mentioned in the beginning
that all the calls were recorded.
